• What Is Printing Belfast?

  Printing has a very long and mixed lifetime with the very first printed item being manufactured in China within the T’ang Dynasty (618 to 906). This early printing was produced by using an inked hand carved timber block then pressing the image onto paper. That might not sound very much how we print items now but if it hadn’t been for that very early version of printing then printing Belfast might not have become what it is today. The worlds earliest printed book is a really important Buddhist text called the Diamond Sutra which was in fact created in 868. We dive forward to 1241 and the Koreans begin to print books using movable type with the Chinese not being far behind with their wooden movable type. The Chinese did not make a great deal of headway with their printing and it certainly did not have the effect that Gutenberg’s development of moveable type did some 300 years later.

  In the UK William Caxton gave us printing when in 1474 he translated then printed 'The History of Troy', Caxton printed over 100 books during his life in printing. Printing Belfast is today a massively different thing to the very early printing with modern day printing techniques and those earlier printers would think we're using magic to produce graphics and text. The printed word is one thing every one of us rely on greatly, we cannot go through the day without seeing things in print, street signs, transport timetables, menus not to mention books, papers and magazines.

  The range of printed material is astonishing and there is no understating the value of printing Belfast for high-quality, skills and a range of knowledge about printing. When you listen to some individuals books aren't going to be around for much longer due to the continuing growth of e-book readers. For me personally I would certainly loathe not to have printed books, the smell of a new book and knowing that you are the 1st person to read it is really a real joy and you just can’t have that from a rectangular display screen. High tech individuals out there might be stunned that somebody enjoys the printed word instead of a streamlined tedious display screen.

  Books that instruct, guide and counsel, maps that show us where we are and printed advertising campaigns that might reach hundreds of thousands all demonstrate how very essential printing is. If we did not have printing then the world might be a very different place. A somewhat growing and developing print area is Three dimensional imaging, it may possibly sound a bit futuristic but it's being employed in hospitals, industry and many organisations. Sad to say Three dimensional printing can be utilised by those of a criminal persuasion! Keys for handcuffs have already been cloned using 3D printing to create a detailed life size image to fashion an operational key.
